Position overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Service Engineer to join our team for an early engagement project. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in defining and managing requirements, overseeing systems development, and ensuring seamless systems integration and build processes.
Key responsibilities
Requirements definition and management
- Define and manage scoping, requirements definition, and prioritization activities for medium-sized and complex initiatives
- Contribute to selecting the requirements approach
- Facilitate input from stakeholders, provide constructive challenge, and enable effective prioritization of requirements
- Establish requirements baselines, obtain formal agreement to requirements, and ensure traceability to source
Systems development management
- Plan and drive systems development projects supporting organizational objectives and plans
- Select, adopt, and adapt appropriate systems development methods, tools, and techniques
- Ensure stakeholders are aware of required resources and that they are made available
- Facilitate the availability and optimum utilization of resources
- Monitor and report on the progress of development projects
- Ensure projects are carried out in accordance with agreed architectures, standards, methods, and tools, addressing security and privacy requirements
- Develop roadmaps to communicate future development activity
Systems integration and build
- Provide technical expertise to enable the configuration of system components and equipment for systems testing
- Collaborate with technical teams to develop and agree on system integration plans and report on progress
- Define complex/new integration builds
- Ensure that integration test environments are correctly configured
- Design, perform, and report results of tests of the integration build
- Identify and document system integration components for recording in the configuration management system
- Recommend and implement improvements to processes and tools
Additional duties
- Collaborate with and facilitate internal and external communication to fully document business needs and indicate solutions if required
- Support the creation of requirements that meet the strategic needs of the business
- Take responsibility for understanding client requirements, collecting data, supporting analysis, and problem resolution
- Support coherence, standardization efforts, assure quality of products, and alignment across systems in the use of optimal technologies, leading to faster implementation and reduced maintenance costs
- Contribute to early Solution Architecting team activities related to customer support for upcoming requirements
- Act as the interface to the CTO Early Engagement to allow the smooth transition of customer requirements to the project teams
- Maintain active links with customers
- Promote and enforce outsourcing of commodity services
- Promote transition from assets to services
- Deputize for higher-grade staff if required
- Perform other duties as may be required
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree from a nationally recognized/certified university in a related discipline and 2 years of post-related experience
- Alternatively, at least 6 years of extensive and progressive expertise in duties related to the function of the post may compensate for the lack of a university degree
Experience
- Experience with drafting ICT design and/or software development and planning of system and software delivery for large projects
- Experience in identifying and assessing new and emerging technologies and their adoption into larger systems
- Experience in developing technology roadmaps considering emerging technology solutions
- Experience managing relationships with technical stakeholders (internal and external)
- Proven ability to apply analytical and systems thinking to complex problems
- Proven ability to moderate technical design-related discussions with multi-disciplinary teams
- Proven experience presenting complex technical concepts to diverse and sometimes non-technical audiences
Desirable experience
- Proven ability in process analysis and design techniques, including needs assessment, specification development, planning, and gap analysis
- Knowledge in The Open Group Togaf, ArchiMate, ITIL, COBIT, CISSP, or equivalent
- Knowledge and experience with Military systems requirement capture, analysis, and specifications
Working conditions
- Normal office environment.
- May require travel to other sites within Belgium 1-2 times per month
