Senior 5G-NTN Software Stack Engineer
We are looking for a 5G-NTN Software Stack Engineer to reinforce our team which has more than two decades of experience in the satellite industry. As our new colleague you contribute to the design, development, integration, and validation of software components that enable standard 3GPP 5G NR services over satellite links. You will work on disaggregated RAN and core network functions, cloud orchestration, NTN-aware signal processing, and test environments that emulate real satellite conditions.
You will be an integral part of an already existing multidisciplinary team of experienced, friendly, and talented colleagues, who are working across 5G, SatCom, DSP, virtualization, and system validation. The work includes developing and integrating software around OpenAirInterface-based gNB and 5GC functions, containerized microservices, Kubernetes orchestration, traffic simulation, and NTN channel emulation. The goal is to deliver a robust, scalable, and standards-compliant platform that supports unmodified commercial user equipment in Direct-to-Handheld scenarios. You'll have the chance to work with cutting-edge technologies and take a leading role in ensuring the satellite communications of the future work properly!
You will actively participate in a highly innovative project at the intersection of 5G, satellite communications, and cloud infrastructure. At the same time, you contribute to a real system demonstrator, not only to research studies. You collaborate with experts in software architecture, DSP, NTN, and system validation and help shaping future ground-segment products and next-generation 5G-NTN capabilities.
This is what you give:
- You hold an MSc or PhD in Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- You have strong software development skills in C++, Python and MATLAB.
- You have a good understanding of 3GPP 5G NR, RAN architecture, and 5GC concepts.
- You have a good understanding of 5G protocol stack layers, including PHY, MAC, RLC, PDCP, and RRC.
- You are familiar with 3GPP Release 16/17/18 features relevant to 5G NR and NTN.
- You are familiar with satellite channel emulation for NTN scenarios, including delay, Doppler, and link impairment modelling.
- You have hands-on experience with Linux-based development and networking.
- You are familiar with OAI-RAN, OAI-CN and DSP for wireless systems.
- You can debug complex distributed systems and work across software, networking, and radio domains, and have thorough experience with SDR platforms such as USRP.
- You communicate easily and enjoy working closely with other software developers, but also product managers, and validation engineers
- You are a fast learner, eager for new concepts, not afraid when challenged to apply them
- You can work independently when given tasks, but you also know when to ask for help
- You produce clean, readable, and well-structured documentation in impeccable English
- You preferably have a work permit for the country of Luxembourg
This is what's nice to have:
- Experience with cloud-native tools such as Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Familiarity with AWS, network virtualization, or microservices.
- Knowledge of RU/DU/CU disaggregation, and functional split options such as Option 1, Option 2, Option 7.2x, and Option 8.
- Familiarity with O-RAN concepts and architecture, including RIC, SMO, and interfaces such as O1, O2, and E2.
- Familiarity with performance testing, traffic modelling, and automated validation frameworks.
- Familiarity with ETSI NFV/MANO, OSS, and orchestration concepts for virtualized telecom platforms.
- Familiarity with DVB-S2X and DVB-GSE.
- Familiarity with DIFI and eCPRI.
- Familiarity with CUDA, HLS, and VHDL.
This is what you get:
- An attractive salary and relocation package.
- A comprehensive training plan, starting with onboarding, which caters to your development needs and helps you achieve your career goals.
- A supportive environment where people come first.
- Flexible and partly remote working options.
- An opportunity to work in a challenging fast-paced environment with the latest technologies which affect the lives of billions of peoplearound the globe.
- Work-life balance which includes an exciting lifestyle in the heart of Europe, in the multicultural city of Luxembourg.
